- How do I apply to jobs?
To apply to jobs, first click here to
create a job seeker account. After creating an account, you will be sent to your account centre where you can create a resume. Once your resume is complete, browse through the job listings and click "Apply" for the ones that interest you.
- Do I have to create a job seeker account to apply to jobs?
We recommend that you create a job seeker account and create an online resume. This way, employers will receive resumes that have been formatted for their best possible viewing. In addition, you can make your resume searchable so that employers searching for candidates can find you. However, it is not mandatory that you create an account. If an employer has shown his or her contact information in the job description, you may contact the employer directly.
- What is the remember
username and password option when I create an account?
When you choose to have your username and password remembered, you will be able to log into your account from the same computer, without having to enter your username and password each time. This makes it very convenient for you to return at any time. However, if you share your computer with others and you don't want them to have access to your account, we recommend that you do not enable this option. You may change this setting at any time by going to "Profile" in your account centre.
- I forgot my username
and/or password. How can I retrieve it?
To retrieve your username and password, click here
and enter your email address. The username and password will automatically
be emailed to you.
- How do I get the best
results through BCjobs.ca?
First, it is important to actively seek and apply to jobs that are suited to your qualifications. We also strongly recommend that you create and activate an online resume, as many employers select possible candidates by searching and viewing BCjobs.ca's resume database. You can also find lots of great information and advice in our Career Centre. Click here

- What is a confidential resume?
A confidential resume allows you to post a resume without disclosing the
following:
- personal information (name, address, email address, phone number)
- present employer's company name
- references
Please note that when you use
your confidential resume to actively apply to jobs, all the information
listed above will be disclosed.
- How will employers contact me if I post my resume online, but my resume security is set to 'confidential'?
If your resume security is set to 'confidential', employers can only contact you through BCjobs.ca. Employers will fill out a form and an email will automatically be sent to you. Your personal information will never be disclosed to the employer.
- What is an 'Saved Search/Job Alert'?
When you search for jobs on BCjobs.ca you can use certain search criteria such as, keyword, category, region, employer type, job type, work experience, job type, date posted and relevance. Once you have done this search once, BCjobs.ca gives you the option of saving that search so that you can run it again with the click of a button. It also gives you the option of having those jobs that match your saved search e-mailed to you daily, weekly or bi-weekly.
- I have not received
any email notifications, even though I enabled job alerts. What's wrong?
You will only receive email notifications when there are new jobs that match your criteria. If you have not received any email notifications for an extended period, please check the keywords that you have entered and ensure that your spelling is correct. For example, entering "managger" in the keyword field will not match any jobs, as the word is spelt incorrectly. In addition, excessive use of the word "and" in the keyword field will decrease the probability of a match. For example, entering 'programmer and painter and reporter' will likely never match any jobs.
- What is the 'block
employer' option?
Blocking an employer will hide your active online resume from certain employers.
- How do I avoid applying to false job advertisements?
Regrettably, from time to time, false job postings are listed online and used to illegally collect personal information from job seekers. The posting of false job advertisements may be a criminal violation of federal and/or provincial law.
BCjobs.ca is dedicated to stopping this abuse and providing the safest possible environment for you to search and apply to jobs and manage your career.
Here are some important tips to use when dealing with prospective employers:
- Do not give your social insurance number, even if they suggest that it is for a "routine background check."
- Do not provide credit card or bank numbers or engage in any monetary transactions.
- Do not provide any non-work-related personal information (i.e. social insurance number, eye color, marital status, etc.) over the phone or online – or by any other means.
- Be cautious when dealing with contacts outside of your own country.
- Look at the company website. Websites with only an email address listed are probably not real companies
- Be cautious of any employer offering employment without an interview (either in person or by phone).
- Use a search engine and search the company name
If you see a questionable job posting or site activity on our site, please report the suspected fraud to BCjobs.ca at reportfraud@bcjobs.ca
If you think you have been a victim of fraud, immediately report the committed fraud to your local police and contact BCjobs.ca at reportfraud@bcjobs.ca , so steps can be taken to manage your safety.

- What
is the Career Centre?
The Career Centre is a resource for our job seekers. The Career Centre has numerous tools and articles, information and advice aimed at helping you to move ahead with your career.
- What
is the search bar?
You can use the search at the top of the page to find articles or content anywhere in the resources section. For example, if you wanted to learn as much as possible about building a great resume, type 'resume' in the search box and hit enter to view a list of all resume related content.
- What
is the 'Latest Jobs' menu?
You might notice that this changes often. Listed here are the latest 10 jobs posted on BCjobs.ca. Click one to view the detailed posting.
- What happens to archived
or old articles?
Archived articles and other content are all still available. You can either browse for them through the "Columns" menu, or make use of the search function at the top of the page to display any relevant content.
- What are the recommended
articles?
The recommended articles are submissions from Career Practitioners, HR Managers and Professionals that cover a wide range of subjects, all relevant to either finding a job or advancing your career. We make the recommendations regularly to bring you the most informative content possible.
- How often does the Career
Centre change?
The Career Centre is constantly updating. If you can't see something you know was there yesterday, it hasn't been deleted. Just use the search feature and you'll find it quickly.
